Robert Dandarov was born in Strumica, Macedonia
in 1959. After graduating from the School
of Applied Arts in Skopje, he was offered a scholarship
to the American Academy of Art in Chicago. From
there he was invited to attend the National Academy
of Design in New York City, where he was also
awarded a scholarship, from where he graduated
in 1981.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Dandarov participated
in numerous one man and group shows in the U.S.
and Europe, including various shows in Germany,
Holland and Belgium.
In 1999 he moved to the Dominican Republic and
spent two years as an artist in residence and
teacher of painting at Altos de Chavon School
of Design, affiliated with the Parsons School
of Design in New York City.
In 2001, Dandarov spent a year in Antwerp, Belgium
studying the techniques of the seventeenth century
Flemish painters and preparing a series of works
for a solo show at the Museum of Contemporary
Art in Skopje, Macedonia.
Robert Dandarov currently lives and works in
Brooklyn, NY.
